Why I moved
- In 2024, I couldn't automatically pay for Dropbox. They had a dark-pattern (at least that is what appeared to me) to upgrade from my paid plan to next one.
- I looked for an alternative. pCloud came highly recommended. Paid for a month and moved
- Dropbox has "keep only at online" feature. This reduces needed storage space in your laptop. I had used that. Now I had to download all the files. Took almost 3 days to download all files from Dropbox (even though I was in Jio Fiber).
- Installation and setting up pCloud was easy. But syncing thousands of files was slow. I backed up the files using a hard-disk and copied to the other laptop.
- .git files and other such files where giving often "file is locked" error. I never got that from dropbox
- Got
missing object 5e06f003ea00exxxx for refs/remotes/origin/HEAD error. Had to delete all .git folders on pCloud, delete some of the repos and download from backup again.keep your own hard-disk based backup
- Whenever the pCloud window is displayed from the taskbar, it will freeze. I can't use keyboard though I can use mouse. Frustrating.
