He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.
- in those days wealth was in physical space. It would have taken enormous effort to collect, pack, and take everything with them. He would have been comfortable at whatever he was. Yet he left.
- He also didn’t question: I am already blessed here. What other blessing would make me more blessed?
- He was a rich man who obeyed God.

Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe.
- After Abram comes to his promised land, there was a famine. He or his group might have wondered what have they done. They left their place and come to a new place. Is it a sign of things to come?
- We repeatedly see in the Bible, God is not portrayed as a magician. He does miracles, but not magic.
- In Mathew 1 too Joseph runs to Egypt with Jesus after obeying God's angel to take up Mary. In Acts 27, we see Paul running into storms after hearing from God that he is on the right path.
